A craving for cookies got Darcy Maulsby cooking back when she was 12.
Maulsby said she can remember her mom was out of the house and “I got possessed with something,” which sent her to the kitchen to make a batch herself.
The recipe stumped her, though, when it called for granulated sugar. Uncertain if that meant white or brown sugar, Maulsby dialed up her grandmother in Lake City for help.
Once that was cleared up, the cooking commenced. Maulsby cooked for 4-H, too, and has continued to do so as an adult.
“I love cooking because it’s comfort,” she said, adding that making food for friends and family is a way to show love. “It’s such a tangible expression of that.”
