County approves Dakota Access road crossing agreement

Dakota Access will cross under 36 Calhoun County roads when it builds an underground oil transmission pipeline through the county later this year.
For every crossing, Dakota Access will pay the county an $1,800 inspection fee, Engineer Zac Andersen told the Board of Supervisors July 19. With that many crossings, Dakota Access should pay Calhoun County $63,000.
“I worked with them pretty diligently to get this together,” Andersen told the supervisors.
He initially considered a higher dollar amount, but then learned that ISG engineers will also perform some inspections of the road crossings as part of their work representing the county’s interests. Calhoun County hired ISG to inspect drainage tile crossings while Dakota Access is passing through Calhoun County.
The fees will be used to offset the cost of Andersen and other county employees performing the inspections, he said.
