Decathlon wins state title

For the 7th consecutive year, the SCC Academic Decathlon team is Iowa’s small school champion! At the state competition in Fort Dodge on March 2nd and 3rd, SCC outscored 11 other Iowa small schools (as well as 11 out of 12 large schools) to continue their championship streak.
SCC’s team total of 38,974 points was the 3rd highest in team history, and the 4th highest total ever earned by an Iowa small school Academic Decathlon team. Union High School finished a distant 2nd with 35,267 points, while Grundy Center/ Dike/New Hartford placed 3rd with 34,139 points.
Representing SCC at the Honors level in the competition were senior Connor Bahr, junior Austin Olberding, and freshman Michael Mossman. Bahr was the overall highest scorer at the Honors level with a total of 6,793 points, and earned medals in 6 of the 10 events, including first place gold in Social Science, Literature, and Economics. Olberding won 3 event medals: 2nd place silvers in Art and Literature, and a 3rd place bronze in Social Science. Mossman accumulated 6 event medals, highlighted by 1st place finishes in Art and Music.
