Dennis Gray

Dennis Gray, 91 of Lake City, passed away Sept. 13, 2023, at Accura HealthCare, of Lake City. Dennis was born July 6, 1932, to Beryl and Amelia (Sorenson) Gray at their home in rural Lake City. He lived in Farnhamville as a young child and then lived in multiple states before returning to Lake City. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1952.  

Dennis was drafted Jan. 8, 1953 to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He earned the rank of Technical Corporal and was honorably discharged Dec. 22, 1954. After his return from Korea, Dennis was united in marriage to Shirley Craigmile at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in 1956. Dennis and Shirley moved to Omaha, Nebraska continuing his education at a Tech School where he learned television repair and electronics. They then returned to Lake City to raise their family. This union was blessed with three children: Gary, Denise and Alan.

 Dennis was employed at, then owned and operated Gray’s Plumbing & Heating, until retirement. He also enjoyed raising all kinds of livestock and growing crops on his small farm North of Lake City. In his free time, Dennis enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting. He loved being a grandfather and attended all of his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Dennis cherished his time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Gary (Beth) Gray, of Madrid; Denise (Louie) Anders, of Lake City, and Alan (Amy L) Gray, of Lake City; grandchildren: Lucas (Nicole) Gray, Rebecca (James) Gray-Harriman, Abram (Rochelle) Anders, Amelia (Tom) Klett, Robyn (Courtney) Anders, Neil (Alec) Anders, Christopher Gray (Halle Boyer), Andrew Gray, Nicholas Gray, and Megan Gray; great-grandchildren: Logan (Olivia), Kailyn, Samuel, William, Aurelia, Henry, Alden, Evan, Nathan, Bennett, Braedyn, Cameron, Dylan and William.

   Dennis was preceded in death by his wife; parents; siblings: Val Gray, Don Gray and Betty Rassmussen and great-grandson Nolan Anders.
