Ernst tours Caring Hands Closet, discusses health care issues

At the Calhoun County Public Health Office last week, U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst dove deep into a statewide discussion about the Iowa Department of Human Services and how it handles reports of child neglect and abuse.
Ernst was in Calhoun County to learn more about Caring Hands Closet, a partnership between Calhoun County Public Health and Stewart Memorial Community Hospital. The closet gives diapers, wipe and other baby supplies to families already involved in other public health programs and services, in exchange for points parents earn by taking their children to scheduled doctor visits and volunteering in the community, among other tasks.
South Central Calhoun Elementary School Principal Nicole McChesney spoke to Ernst about the connections between local and state agencies and schools.
“We have a very good partnership with Public Health,” McChseny said. “They do things that make life better for our kids and our school”
