Health board grants prison one-year EMS discount

North Central Correctional Facility will get a 20 percent discount on the cost of a Calhoun County EMS ambulance transporting inmates to the hospital for the next year.
Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services Director Kerrie Hull told the county’s Board of Health Wednesday that prison officials recently asked for the discount after a month with three transports. Typically, Hull said, the prison only has about a half dozen emergency transports a year.
“What this does is ask for local tax dollars to subsidize the state,” Calhoun County Public Health Administrator Jane Condon said.
Hull said the prison has a similar agreement with Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, and officials asked the county EMS agency to match that discount.
