As a young wrestler at Rockwell City/Lytton High School, Brian Sexton learned a lot from Coach Tom Hildreth.
“He was great at leading kids and knew how to motivate them,” Sexton said in a phone interview with The Graphic-Advocate last week. “He knew how to make practice fun.”
Hildreth, who retired from the head coach position after 19 years in 2004, then returned for several years to coach at South Central Calhoun Middle School, was given the Lifetime Service Award Oct. 27 by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Iowa Chapter. He was also inducted into the hall of fame. The award recognized his contributions to the sport as a coach, first at Pocahontas High School and later in Rockwell City.
