Middle schoolers test theories for science fair

Max Hawthorne and Hunter Winker learned an important lesson while conducting their experiment for South Central Calhoun Middle School’s science fair.
“To use hand sanitizer after you touch the fifth- and sixth-grade science room door handle,” Winker said.
They learned that lesson after watching the slice of bread they wiped on the door handle develop the most mold of any of the surfaces they tested. To their surprise, the bread slice that touched a toilet seat developed no mold.
“We expected a little more from the bathroom,” Winker said.
