New law shifts mental health advocate position from state to regional control

Calhoun County officials volunteered to be the host county for the Rolling Hills Region mental health advocate.
Leisa Mayer, who is the county’s coordinator with the regional mental health organization, which coordinates services in several counties, told the Board of Supervisors June 23 a new law switched the oversight of the mental health advocate from the state level to a regional one. One county must provide the official supervision, Mayer said, and Supervisor Scott Jacobs, who serves on the Rolling Hills Regional board, suggested it be Calhoun County, because the mental health advocate already working in the region lives in Manson.
“We asked for the change,” Mayer said, adding what legislators approved wasn’t exactly what mental health care providers had requested.
