Portillo returns home after boating accident

A bright yellow light helped save Pam Portillo’s life Aug 1.
Earlier in the day, Portillo had been swimming near the pontoon on which she and her boyfriend, Chris Langenfeld, were passengers, with Langenfeld’s friends. While swimming, she had seen the neon-yellow light that illuminated the pontoon’s underside.
Portillo was sitting on a pontoon at Stockton Lake in southwestern Missouri when she decided to try to trail her toes in the water, a move she had done before on a relative’s pontoon.
This time, though, something wasn’t quite right, Portillo said Friday morning, sitting in her Lake City home, to which she returned Thursday. And when she went to adjust her seating position to reach the water, the locked gate on which she was leaning gave way. She fell in to the water while the pontoon was in motion.
