Workers building new, outdoor restrooms at the courthouse made an unexpected find last week – a dry cistern.
Courthouse maintenance supervisor Bill Jurries told the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors about the discovery during their April 7 meeting.
“It’s been disconnected,” Jurries said. “It’s pretty well dry.”
He was still waiting to find out how big the cistern was. Jurries said he planned to fill the hole with cement, which will be better fill material than sand for the well’s shape. The discovery isn’t unusual, and Calhoun County has aid for homeowners who make such a find.
