Protesters from across Iowa set up camp on a Calhoun County farm Tuesday afternoon.
Their goal, Bold Iowa’s Ed Fallon said, is to stop the Dakota Access pipeline from continuing work across the state.
Shirley Gerjets, whose father bought the farm on 270th Street, just east of Rockwell City in the 1950s, said she allowed the protest encampment on her land because she feels she’s run out of options to object to the pipeline. She didn’t accept a voluntary easement for the pipeline, which runs just north of her home. She is contesting her condemnation hearing results, hoping for a chance to argue against the use of eminent domain to give Dakota Access an easement to her property.
