Radio problems and some disagreements about triage criteria were the biggest problems highlighted during a full-scale emergency exercise in Lake City.
The Calhoun County Health Care Coalition reviewed the after-action report for the May 13 training event at their meeting Thursday morning in Lake City. Overall, the report said, the event ran smoothly.
“The major issues were in regards to communications,” the report said. “Some of the radios were not programed correctly. The (Emergency Medical Services) Branch Director could not communicate with the hospital. The hospital does now have a radio that should be able to communicate with EMS personnel. The evaluators identified the multiple treatment locations, improper use of the triage tarps and some persons tag as green not being properly given a patient assessment. There was also some confusion as to the on scene triage criteria with some hospital/clinic personnel.”
