SCC school board passes $4.8 million Elementary Expansion project

After conducting public hearings, reviewing bids and much discussion, the approval of the expansion of South Central Calhoun Elementary School in Rockwell City was one of the main highlights in the SCC Board of Supervisors latest regular meeting, which was held on March 11 in the vocal room of SCC High School in Lake City.
The $4.8 million project, which passed with a 6-1 vote, will continue to be examined by a special committee. The special committee would make adjustments as the project goes along, which would be used to help save money and cut down costs.
Also pushed through at the meeting was the addition of a full school day on April 18 and a two-hour early out on April 19. Both days fall on Holy Week, as April 18 and April 19 are Maundy Thursday and Good Friday respectively. Before the regular meeting began, the school board held a school calendar public hearing.
In the three-minute hearing, it was announced that the new school year cannot begin any sooner than August 23, with May 22 of 2020 being the last day of the next year.
