Schools, towns participate in statewide walk for health

In Rockwell City Wednesday afternoon, a parade of students wearing lots of Titans purple approached the Calhoun County on Court Street.
In Lake City about 40 minutes later, students streamed out of South Central Calhoun High School onto the track, while music blared from the press box.
In both towns, the students were taking part in a statewide initiative to raise awareness about the health benefits of walking. Called the Healthiest State Initiative, organizers were able to schedule walks in all 99 counties.
“I think it’s important for the students to learn how important it is to be active all of your life,” high school nurse Lori Otto said.
