Senior meals open to all, with focus on welcoming the lonely

About two dozen men and women, all at least in their 60s, lined up July 19 in the Rockwell City Community Center for plates loaded down with a biscuit and hamburger gravy and green beans, to be followed by a giant, fluffy cinnamon roll topped with creamy icing.
The food is one of the main reasons the attendees of that day’s congregate meal make the effort to attend the gatherings.
“We’re fortunate to have good gals making the food,” Richard Willis of Rockwell City said.
But there’s another draw to the meals, which happen Monday through Friday, except for holidays and when schools are closed for inclement weather.
“It’s fun to be out with people,” Arlene Willis said.
