Iowans gathered across the state Wednesday to talk about how to prevent falls and form the world’s largest tai chi class.
Calhoun County residents joined in on the action at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, in a demonstration class in the lobby.
Tai chi, a slow-moving form of Chinese martial arts, focuses on balance, instructor Maurine Thieszen said.
“It takes a lot of thinking and practice to learn these moves,” she said. “It’s good for our mind, it’s good for our body and if you have a group, it’s good socially.”
A small group met for the statewide event, and the hospital started last week a 12-week tai chi course.
