A provision of the Affordable Care Act that’s set to take effect in a few years is already causing concerns for Calhoun County officials.
The Board of Supervisors discussed the potential impact of the so-called “Cadillac tax,” a 40 percent excise tax on health insurance benefits above federally established thresholds. The thresholds, according to Cigna, a nationwide health insurance provider, are currently set at $10,200 for individuals and $27,500 for family coverage. Those thresholds will be updated in 2018, and could also be higher for people in high-risk occupations, Cigna officials said on their website.
