A Twin Lakes leaseholder is in violation of lease terms for a strip of county land he uses to house a dock, the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors learned July 10.
Ted George has held the lease for the land on the lake’s south side since 2006. The property was once private held, then state land, then state officials turned it over to Calhoun County. In 2006, George approached the Board of Supervisors and obtained a lease for the land, on which he then built a dock.
Calhoun County Attorney Tina Meth Farrington said the board asked her to review the lease several months ago, and she only recently had time to devote to the request.
“The lease agreement says they have a right to place a dock on the county right-of-way,” Farrington said.
The leaseholders cannot improve the land – that is remove plants – or limit public access to the land, she said.
