Supervisors weigh allowing ATVs on county gravel for fundraiser

A request from Opportunity Living’s board of directors July 21 has the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors investigating whether they can – or should – allow all-terrain vehicles to drive on certain county, gravel roads for a fundraiser later this year.
Theresa Hildreth, representing the Opportunity Living board, told supervisors the organization was considering hosting a poker run fundraiser. To include more participants, board members said they would like to include ATV riders as well as motorcyclists, she said.
“We’re trying to reach a younger demographic,” Hildreth said.
Supervisors said they were supportive of the idea, if the county is allowed to issue a one-day exemption for ATVs. Hildreth said other counties do license ATVs, but Calhoun County does not.
