Reading and sitting at the lake go hand in hand, Shawn Russell says.
The Fort Dodge kindergarten teacher loves to visit the lake, and she likes to read, but the reading materials she often has at hand are teaching resource books.
Earlier this year, she was browsing Pinterest, a craft and décor inspirational website, when she came across photos of free lending library boxes that communities have put up in public locations. Russell said she immediately thought such a library system would be a good fit for the lake, where visitors come and go and may not have a card for the Rockwell City Public Library, or the time or inclination to drive into town for a book.
“Some people, you come here, you park your car and you’re here,” Russell said.
She posted about the idea on a Twin Lakes Facebook page, and the feedback was quick and supportive. Carla Holt, who also has a house at the lake, was one of the supporters, who stepped in with financial support.
