The All-Star Readers program wrapped up its fall session last week in both towns.
Retired South Central Calhoun Elementary School teacher Sheri Hanks expanded the program to Lake City three years ago, coordinating with the Friends of the Library and Lake City Library Director Michele Deluhery to offer the weekly reading sessions there. Previously, Lake City students could participate, but they did so at the elementary school in Rockwell City, which might have limited participation, Hanks said.
As a teacher, Hanks said she could see lots of value in the program, which pairs adults with first-, second- and third-grade students, who read for about an hour with the volunteers.
