It can be difficult to find new things at an event that has been running for more then 50 years, Top Rail Saddle Club officer Nancy Janssen said.
But this year, the club’s annual rodeo will feature a new stock contractor, following the retirement of the previous contractor. Silver Creek Rodeo will come to Lake City for this weekend’s festivities from Arkansas, Kan.
Rodeo attendees “won’t hear the same jokes, the won’t hear the same announcer” as they have for the past decade or so, Janssen said, adding she is “very excited about them.”
Saddle club members researched stock contractors – the group that brings the bulls and bucking broncos to the rodeo, as well as the clown and other entertainment – and interviewed several.
“This guy rose to the top,” Janssen said. “We’re all looking very forward to working with him.”
Saddle club members and volunteers do much of the behind-the-scenes work at the rodeo, working closely with the stock contractor. About 50 people will volunteer for the Saturday night rodeo, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed, as always, by fireworks.
