Work begins on Jefferson County casino

A multimillion dollar casino and events center project is moving ahead in Jefferson County.
Officials with Wild Rose Jefferson opened their temporary offices Monday. They also held a ground breaking Feb. 25 for a 74-room hotel to be located next to the casino.
Calhoun County Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Pam Anderson said she anticipates some of the economic benefits from the casino to spill over into Calhoun County.
“Since we border right on Jefferson County, there’s going to be opportunities for local people, especially in the southern part of the county,” Anderson said Friday.
