College grads offer advice to high school seniors

Cayla Morton was just seven minutes away from home when she moved into her college dorm.
The transition wasn’t easy, South Central Calhoun music and vocal teacher said. She cried when her parents left, even though she knew she would see them in just three days, she told a group of Calhoun County senior girls at the American Association of University Women meeting April 19 in Rockwell City.
But once she adjusted to life at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc., she found she actually was pretty ready.
“I felt like my parents raised me to know my values and who I should be,” Morton said. “They instilled a work ethic and a desire to succeed.”
