Originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, Halloween harkens back to a time of superstitions and keeping spirits at bay. Now, Halloween is a time where candy is given out, costumes are donned and pumpkins are carved into jack-o'-lanterns.

Children and adults all around The Graphic-Advocate area will partake in All Hallows Eve-related events this weekend, beginning with Lake City's Beggar's Night on Friday evening and ending with various activities in Rockwell City, Lohrville and Lytton on Saturday. In between, there are plenty of ways to rack up your candy count.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Lake City will have its trick or treating take place throughout town.

Opportunity Living will conduct a drive-through haunted house, which will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Lake City's annual Trunk or Treat celebration kicks off a Saturday full of local events, beginning at 2 p.m. and finishing up at 5 p.m. at the Downtown Square. The Graphic-Advocate office, located at 121 N. Center Street in Lake City, will also be open to hand out candy to trick or treaters from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Rockwell City's Trunk or Treat, will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in front of Champion Chrysler Center. Beggar's Night in Rockwell City will begin following the conclusion of the Trunk or Treat, going from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Lohrville will have Beggar's Night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Lytton will have its Beggar's Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Lytton Fire Department will hold its open house on Saturday, as well, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its new Fire Station.

Manson will see its businesses distribute candy from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and general trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
