As the end of the fiscal year approaches, the Calhoun County Health Care Coalition has been prioritizing how it should spend the balance of a state disaster preparedness grant.
At the group’s meeting Thursday, coalition members authorized spending about $2,700 on supplies for the mental health crisis home that serves Sac, Calhoun and four other counties.
Stewart Memorial Community Hospital Chief Operating Office Cindy Carstens explained to other coalition members that the home, which is funded through a nine-county mental health region, is available for Calhoun County residents, even though it is located in Sac City.
“If (patients with mental health emergencies) come to the emergency room, we send them there, if that’s what they need,” Carstens said.
The crisis home, which opened earlier this year, provides short-term services for people in the midst of a mental health crisis. The director there requested a number of supplies, including an automated external defibrillator, weather radios, 12-hour light sticks and CPR masks.
