Levies down for county, up in Rockwell City, Lake City

Calhoun County residents will see their overall county levy rate drop for next year, according to a proposed budget.
The Board of Supervisors won’t be able to approve the new levy rate – 10.26022 – until after a March 10 public hearing on the proposed budget.
The new rate is about 6.9 percent lower than the current levy rate. One factor behind the decline is the county’s ability to lower its mental health levy rate. The Graphic-Advocate incorrectly reported Feb. 18 that levy was increasing. Board of Supervisors members had discussed how low they would be able to drop that levy rate, and calculations showed they could still lower it, but not quite as much as anticipated.
