Michael Berns

Michael A. Berns, 72, Bloomington, Minnesota, died peacefully at home Wednesday, Nov. 1. Born Sept. 23, 1951, in Lake City to Bell and Elmer Berns, he spent his childhood on the family’s Century Farm in Lanesboro. Michael was proud of his Danish heritage and cherished his rural Iowa roots his whole life, even after relocating to Minnesota in 1973. Friends and family will remember Michael for his kind, patient nature and his sense of humor that made everyone feel like a friend. He had a passion for classic musicals (especially “The Music Man”), games and trivia, and was a thoughtful host who loved to entertain. Michael had a rewarding 27-year career with School District 287’s VECTOR program, teaching independent living skills to young adults with special needs.In retirement Michael found joy spending time with loved ones and was positively tickled to become a grandpa. Survived by wife, Carol; daughter Sarah (Travis Anderson); son Andrew (Nicole); and grandson Sullivan. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
