Saturday crash kills Lake City woman

A Lake City woman died in an early morning collision Saturday in Carroll County.

Chelsey Marie Henkenius, 22, died of injuries she suffered when she lost control of the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix she was driving north on Timber Avenue. Her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and was struck broadside by a 2002 Dodge Ram truck driven by Jake Joseph Kasperbauer, 20, of Scranton, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew James Lauver, 24, formerly of Rockwell City, was a passenger in the Grand Prix. He and Kasperbauer were both injured in the collision. 

The collision took place about 0.7 miles south of 170th Street, officials said.

The Glidden Fire/First Responders, Carroll County EMS, Carroll County Fire Department and Heavy Rescue, Lidderdale First Responders and Ralston Fire/First Responders assisted at the scene.

The sheriff’s office was continuing to investigate the collision, officials said in a press release.

Lampe Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at the South Central Calhoun High School gymnasium in Lake City, with Father Lynn Bruch officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lake City.
