Supervisors accept zoning tweaks

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors formalized zoning rules that have been in force for years at their Sept. 22 meeting.
The rules set a minimum 40-acre lot for nonagricultural uses, unless a nonfarm dwelling is to be located on an abandoned farmstead. In that case, the lot size is 2 acres.
Supervisors Chairman Gary Nicholson voted against the changes.
“I am completely against the 40-acre deal,” Nicholson said.
One problem with that rule, Nicholson said, is it only applies to new construction. A farmer who already owns a 40-acre parcel could, for example, build a home on just 2 acres and sell it, bypassing the 40-acre minimum requirement.
