Supervisors pass on trying to collect legal fees from Des Moines Water Works

Calhoun County’s Board of Supervisors was the last of the three boards involved in a lawsuit with the Des Moines Water Works to opt not to seek legal fees from the water company, board members said last week.
Des Moines Water Works officials said they wouldn’t appeal a federal judge’s ruling dimissing the case brought against 10 drainage districts in three counties, on the condition that the counties didn’t try to recover the legal fees spent defending themselves.
“It was a conscious decision,” Supervisor Mike Cooper said. “It was opening a can of worms for very little benefit.”
